What are stem cells?
Stem cells (or progenitor cells) have the following characteristics: They are cells that are not yet specific in their functions. They can divide and change themselves into many types of specific cells to replace and restore deteriorated parts of the body.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are the stem cells that we already have in our bodies. It can transform into various cells in our body, for example, muscle cells, bone cells, cartilage cells, cardiac muscle cells, etc. When our body inflames and deteriorates, normally, the natural mechanism in stem cells is that they will run to the place needed for repair. For example, when the body inflames or injures, stem cells will run to it and repair them. Body stem cells can be sorted from many parts such as marrow, fat, placenta, and umbilical cord. The progenitor cells are found and grouped by Friedenstein AJ et al (1968) and are studied widely nowadays, so it makes doctors who examined and followed up the research of this progenitor cell feel confident and adapt to the clinic use more.
